Hastings 1962
It is with great pleasure we welcome you to our web site.
Here you will find the story and history of a unique show and a very important piece of theatre which ran for 65 years.
The Fol de Rols was a show that ran and played every year from 1911 to 1976.
It played at seaside resorts from Scarborough, right round the coast to Torquay and Blackpool and it toured most major cities in England and Scotland, where it had a huge following.
Dozens of well known names began their careers in the show and established performers loved their seasons with this company. That show was of course “The Fol de Rols”.
Help and Support
I decided to launch this web site as a tribute to all those who worked in “The Fols” and also many of you who were fans and saw the shows and I’m sure have very many happy memories of those days.
I have been given much help, material programmes and also encouragement from Peter Felgate, himself “a Fol” and can go back to the beginings as his parents were in the original company: you could say he was born to it! He laterly directed the shows and has many wonderful memories that I hope to put onto this site along with photos and programmes.
Peter, a spry 95 year old, lives in Eastbourne with his wife Maggie Macdonald, who was soprano in the show in the 1960’s. It would be lovely to hear from ex-Fols and fans: please send your feed back.
Dedication
This website is dedicated to three wonderful men: Phillip Charles, Hugh Charles and Peter Felgate
