You will see from the programme that it was a smaller show in those days and the caricature of the company is lovely. I worked with Bobby Alderson in 1969 at the Lido Theatre in margate when we were there for the summer season.
Joan was obviously a trained ballet dancer as amongst the memorabilia are several GAZETTES from the RAD dated 1934 and 1941. Also some lovely pictures of Pavlova.
She also appeared in panto and at broadstairs in a theatre called “Bohemia” in the high street. The show was called “The Peep Show” and she seems to have done several seasons there.
Back in the Fols at the Winter Gardens Eastbourne in 1934 seems to be a summer season as there were lots of changes of programme and Joan danced many solos including a French Pierette. I would love to have seen that!
She also wrote down the choreography for various ballets in the Fols and I have the book of those dances.
Such an interesting lady I’m very grateful to Michael for sending me all this. I shall keep it with the rest of the “Fols” programmes.
